Background of the Study

IT asset management (ITAM) tools are critical for businesses to track, manage, and optimize their IT assets. By providing insights into resource utilization and lifecycle management, ITAM tools can significantly reduce operational costs (Eze & Adeola, 2024).

Businesses in Niger State are adopting ITAM tools to address inefficiencies in resource allocation, maintenance, and procurement. However, the effectiveness of these tools in reducing operational costs requires empirical investigation to justify investments and inform decision-making.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the advantages of ITAM tools, businesses in Niger State struggle with their implementation and optimization due to factors like limited technical expertise, high costs, and inadequate integration with existing systems. These challenges may undermine the potential cost savings that ITAM tools can deliver.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of ITAM tools in reducing operational costs and identifies barriers to their optimal use in Niger State.

Objectives of the Study

1. To evaluate the adoption and usage of ITAM tools in businesses in Niger State.

2. To assess the impact of ITAM tools on operational cost reduction.

3. To identify challenges in the implementation of ITAM tools and recommend solutions.

Research Questions

1. To what extent have businesses in Niger State adopted ITAM tools?

2. What is the impact of ITAM tools on operational cost reduction?

3. What challenges hinder the implementation of ITAM tools?

Research Hypotheses

1. ITAM tools have not been significantly adopted by businesses in Niger State.

2. ITAM tools do not significantly reduce operational costs.

3. Challenges in ITAM tool implementation have no significant impact on their effectiveness.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on businesses in Niger State, analyzing the adoption and effectiveness of ITAM tools. Limitations include diverse operational structures across businesses and reluctance to share cost-related data.

Definitions of Terms
